Take The Coltrane

from Starlight by Jack DeSalvo

/

about

This is the last trio album from D3, recorded just after their year long residence at Lorenzo's. They released two more with special guests, D3+1.0 and D3+1.1. D3 was a power trio if there ever was one. Their first album Spontaneous Combustion released by ENJA/Tutu in 1991, was powerful, free electric jazz. Starlight, however, is often gentle, often swinging, with their sense of freedom applied to well known songs and some improvised pieces with their collective virtuosity etched into the proceedings. Truly a culmination of jazz in the early 21st century, Starlight is dedicated to the memory of Tony DeCicco (1958-2018).
