about

There is a shimmering, virtuosic sheen to the performances here that keeps the often polytonal harmonies and surprising melodies lyrical and poignant. The expansive nature of this music provides a breathtaking sonic adventure.
This pairing of these two extraordinary composer-improvisers was initiated after performing and recording in various ensembles, but their first time playing together was likely at the Firehouse Space in Brooklyn when DeSalvo joined Matt Lavelle's 12 Houses, initially as a cellist. Forbes was a founding member of that ensemble.
They became increasingly interested in each other's compositions in the group Quintrepid and made a couple of pandemic-era virtual videos. The project finally took fruition at Tom Cabrera's Woodshedd Studio, the home of many of Unseen Rain Records' most important recordings.
